Historic Kansas City

West Bottoms Redevelopment

Kansas City, Missouri

Project Overview

I-Solutions has replaced the storm, sanitary, and potable water systems beneath 11th Street. The reconstructed corridor now features improved drainage, underground soil cells that support green infrastructure, and new on-street parking. This milestone represents a significant step forward in the transformation of the West Bottoms district and includes approximately 12,300 SY of pavement replacement with associated grading, storm drainage improvements, waterline relocation, sanitary sewer relocation, street lighting, and landscaping.

Stormwater improvements have included underground treatment wells designed to address localized flooding. Hydrodynamic separators remove trash and debris before stormwater enters a well and perforated pipe system that allows treated water to naturally infiltrate back into the environment, improving water quality and managing peak runoff within the corridor.

Project delivery has required close coordination among the owner (City of Kansas City, Missouri), developer (SomeraRoad), and multiple building contractors, including Rau Construction, as numerous improvements are occurring simultaneously throughout the district. The team has also coordinated closely with the railroad to complete a bore beneath the rail line and reconstruct portions of the rail yard to support a new parking lot.

When complete in 2026, the corridor will include a public plaza with turf areas, benches, shade canopies, and a food and beverage kiosk, creating an active gathering space that supports continued redevelopment in the West Bottoms.
